ABIM calls for mutual respect and tolerance to avoid being trapped in racial prejudice.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Youth Movement (ABIM) urged the public to avoid being trapped in racial prejudices regarding the temple issue in USJ.

Its president Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim said the public needed to remain calm and put full trust on the authorities to resolve the polemic as well as to control the situation.

“I believe that mutual respect and tolerance is important in order for the people to understand the culture, religion and sensitivity of racial and religious groups in the country.

“In this case I would like to express grief over the incident that should not have happened as it caused injury to one of the firefighters,” he said.

Raimi also urged authorities to take strict action to control such incidents from spreading which could undermine the safety of the public.

“We appreciate the actions of the authorities to deal with this polemic. At the same time we hope the authorities act immediately to disseminate the latest information and official media statements to control the situation,” he said.
